Acrobat Connect Pro: Meet the iPhone
July 14th, 2008

Ok, I admit it. I was one of the consumer-electronic fanatics who braved the lines to be one of the million people who picked up the new iPhone 3G this weekend. I could try to justify my participation in this frenzy with lines about “researching the platform for use with Acrobat Connect Pro” and such, but the reality is, I just wanted it, and wanted it now (then).
Lot’s of people are complaining about the lack of copy/paste, battery life, etc… For me, the most painfully lacking feature is Adobe Flash support, which severely hinders my ability to use the iPhone with Connect (and justify the hours in line). However, I did come up with one solution over the weekend, which is a minor port of our Global Monitor tool to an iPhone-customized interface.
ConnectSolutions’ Global Monitor system is a real-time dashboard that provides essential information into the health of each of our customer’s deployments, including real-time meeting reports, usage trending, alerts, and other metrics designed to provide transparency into our service. The screenshot you see above is a proof-of-concept with an extremely simplified user interface showing whether the service is up or down, or in maintenance mode. I have saved this web app to my home screen using the bookmarklet feature of the iPhone for easy access.
While I won’t be holding any meetings on this device until Flash support is added, there’s some exciting opportunities around this platform for system monitoring and reports, so stay tuned for more on this topic…
